Pedestrian accidents have claimed one life in Jacksonville and put a St Augustine resident in the hospital this week. A 21 year old St Augustine man is in critical condition after being hit by an SUV early Tuesday morning. Seth Davis was walking in the bicycle lane when the driver of the SUV changed lanes and struck Davis. The St Augustine accident occurred on State road 16 eastbound just west of Four Mile road. On the Westside of Jacksonville on Normandy boulevard at Lamplighter Lane a 30 year hearing impaired man was killed by a vehicle as he attempted to cross the street. While accident statistics have decreased in most categories pedestrian fatalities have increased by 4%. Seventy percent of pedestrian fatalities occurred at night. The elderly and 10- 15 year olds are the two groups most likely to be hit by a vehicle. Pedestrians are often difficult to see at night.
