Jacksonville- A deadly auto accident has claimed the life of a 21 year old Army National Guardsman on Jacksonville's Southside. The accident occurred Wednesday around 12:45 a.m. when the other driver ran a red light according to the initial investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Tyler Mapel, was heading west on Beach Blvd. when he attempted to make a left hand turn onto Kernan Blvd a Ford Mustang that was heading East crashed into Mapel after running a red light. The driver of the Mustang is in critical condition the occupants of the Mustang were treated for minor injuries. . Mapel was transported to Memorial hospital where he died shortly after arriving. A young man who served our country has been taken from his family and loved ones all too soon. The investigation is still ongoing. We would not speculate why the other driver ran a red light but we have seen the devastating effects so many times of careless drivers. We hope that by sharing this story drivers will think twice before sliding through that yellow light, we hope drivers will think twice before texting while driving, think twice before drinking and driving. We hope that drivers will realize that speeding may get you there 5 min. sooner or you may never reach that destination and it is not worth the risk. We hope that parents of teen drivers will take the time to talk with their teens and stand firm when they know their teen is violating safe driving practices.
