Jacksonville Teen Dies in Multi Car Accident

Jacksonville's Beach Boulevard was the scene of a major accident yesterday that claimed the life of a teen. When a major road closes on a busy day our heart aches because we know the accident ahead was a serious one. Sadly yesterday the intersection of St Johns Bluff road and Beach Blvd was backed up due to a deadly accident. According the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office an SUV driven by a 39 year old woman ran a red light at high speeds her vehicle went over the concrete median on Beach Blvd. striking a Honda, a tanker truck and a Lexus. The driver of the SUV was hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver of the Honda Denny Grahovic was transported to the hospital where he died later in the day from injuries sustained in the accident. Denny Grahovic was only 18; his passenger a 16 year old female was also seriously injured. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of this accident speed is one factor that has been identified already.

The accident occurred on Saturday just after 11 p.m. The driver of the motorcycle was not injured. Teal Marie Starr was only 22 years old. She was transported to the hospital where she died from injuries sustained in the accident. Teal Starr and the driver of the motorcycle were wearing helmets. Dangerous Intersection

The dangerous intersection near Nease High School will be getting reduced speed zone signs while they continue to wait for a stoplight. Parents and concerned community members first requested a stoplight in 2011 according to the Florida Department of Transportation records. Sadly, the Nease High School intersection has been the scene of six Auto Accidents in a year the most recent left two teens seriously injured. Three of the six accidents resulted in injuries. The high school is located in front of a very dangerous intersection in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. School officials, parents, students and concerned community members have requested a stoplight be installed to protect students from speeding drivers and to help them navigate busy traffic as they turn onto the highway in front of their high school. Florida Department of Transportation has agreed to place reduced speed zone school signs at the intersection until a stoplight is installed. While the date for the stoplight has been moved up several months the actual installation may not happen for a year. This is no doubt difficult for parents to understand as they worry about their young drivers. Students, parents and school administrators are voicing concern. Two petitions have been started in hopes that the installation of a stoplight will be moved up before more accidents occur at the intersection. Links are below for two of the petitions. Child Passenger Safety Week

"Child Passenger Safety Week" begins this week. Recognized by Governor Rick Scott, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reminds us to protect our most precious cargo. Last year 1,165 children were wearing no safety restraints when they were injured in an auto accident. Injuries that could have been prevented in or at least the injuries would not have been as serious in most of these cases. Crash test have proven child safety seats save lives and protect our children from many serious injuries. Children should be seated in the proper restraint for their size and weight. Children under 4 must be seated in a child safety seat. Children 4 and 5 years of age are required to ride in a car seat or booster seat. Children under 12 years of age should be seated in the back seat. Front seat air bags when deployed can be dangerous to children. The Florida Highway Patrol offers free car seat installation and safety checks at Florida Highway Patrol Troop locations. Appointments are available on the first Friday of the month from 9 a.m. - noon. The Jacksonville location is 7322 Normandy Blvd. 32205.  Contact Dylan Bryan for more information at 904-693-5070.
