A busy Orange Park intersection was the scene of a serious hit and run pedestrian accident. Leaving the victim in the crosswalk at Wells Road and Blanding Blvd. with internal injuries and broken bones the driver fled the scene. The 18 year old victim, Matthew Maloney, went for a run and never returned home. His mother Kellie reported him missing but authorities had no way of identifying the young man since he was carrying no identification and his cell phone was badly damaged in the crash. Tuesday morning the police matched Matthew to his mother's description and notified her. A Good Samaritan, Steven Smith stopped to help and stayed with the teen until his mother arrived. Kellie Maloney referred to Smith as her son's "Guardian Angel." Smith's response, "I am happy, God sent me to be there for that family."
