Dog attacks can be serious or even deadly. Being prepared may help protect you if you are ever attacked.
A vicious dog attack was fatal for a Jacksonville man Friday afternoon on the Eastside of town. A 60 year old man was found dead on the property of Franklin Street apartments. Police investigators believe a hole in a chain link fence allowed four dogs to escape from a home on Jessie Street into the area where the victim was found. "Dog on the Premises" signs are posted on the property but that does not release the owner of his responsibility to keep his dogs on his property. Florida has strict liability laws regarding dog bites. The owner of the dogs was located he reported his large dogs as mixed breeds. Neighbors report the dogs as aggressive lunging at the fence as they pass by. All four dogs were taken to Animal Care and Protection Services to be evaluated. Tragically the four dogs involved in this attack were kept at a home close to an apartment complex where families live. We are saddened by the loss of this man's life in a situation that was extremely dangerous for the community and could have been prevented. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office investigation into this tragedy is ongoing.
