Sixteen year old Ruben Kelsey died in a fatal crash on Jacksonville's Arlington Rd. while the younger teens in the SUV with him were hospitalized with serious injuries around 4 a.m. on Sunday. The Honda Pilot was reported stolen from a Mandarin home prior to the crash. The driver was apparently driving at a high rate of speed when they lost control trying to navigate a turn onto Rogero Rd. The vehicle crossed the median and struck a concrete wall and a large utility pole. The impact caused serious damage to the vehicle ejecting the three teens from the SUV. Rueben Kelsey was pronounced dead at the scene the other 2 occupants were only 14 years old. The 14 year olds were reported to be in critical but stable condition. Jacksonville Sherriff's Office had some difficulty identifying the 14 year olds since they were not old enough to have a driver's license. If your teens have a phone make sure they have entered emergency health data and contact information on their phone. A young man who served our country has been taken from his family and loved ones all too soon. The investigation is still ongoing. We would not speculate why the other driver ran a red light but we have seen the devastating effects so many times of careless drivers. We hope that by sharing this story drivers will think twice before sliding through that yellow light, we hope drivers will think twice before texting while driving, think twice before drinking and driving. We hope that drivers will realize that speeding may get you there 5 min. sooner or you may never reach that destination and it is not worth the risk. We hope that parents of teen drivers will take the time to talk with their teens and stand firm when they know their teen is violating safe driving practices.

Over 10% of our nation's crash fatalities involve a driver fleeing the scene. Drivers leaving the scene of a deadly accident are more likely to do so when drinking or driving on a suspended license. Hit-and- run drivers need to be held accountable when they are caught. We know that leaving a victim without medical care could make a big difference in the quality of life that victim may have in the future or even the difference between life and death.
Defective Airbags have been linked to serious injuries and even death in minor accidents. Honda has issued a recall that includes over 2 million vehicles. Honda is just one of many car dealers facing the Takata airbag recall. The defective airbags in the recalled vehicles have the potential to kill or seriously injury drivers and their passengers. Honda CR-V 2011-2015, CR-Z 2010-2014, FCX Clarity and Insight 2009-2013 Fit, 2013-2014 Fit EV, 2007-2014 Ridgeline, 2013-2016 Acura ILX, 2013-2014 Acura ILX Hybrid, 2007-2016 RDX, 2005-2012 Acura RL, 2009-2014 Acura TL, and 2010-2013 Acura ZDX vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture. Florida residents are more at risk with our humid weather. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death. Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the inflator, free of charge. Remedy parts are expected to be available in the fall of 2016. Interim notices will be mailed to owners beginning on March 14, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available.
